B.M. Watson wins the DCMI-2023 Student Forum Award

After a rigorous review and selection process, the DCMI 2023 Student Forum Award goes to B. M. Watson (University of British Columbia School of Information) for their proposal, "The Trans Metadata Collective" (TMDC). TMDC intends to enhance the representation and inclusion of trans and gender-diverse communities in cultural heritage institutions. The research proposal summarizes the TMDC report's investigation and outlines its recommendations regarding common metadata standards, including RDA (Resource Description and Access) and Library of Congress Classification (LCC). Further, it considers how the TMDC will affect Dublin Core metadata. As one reviewer commented, "TMDC is relevant not only for the metadata community but also for the librarian and information science field at large as it fits into the theme of critical librarianship."

The winner receives a $500 prize, supported by DCMI, to aid in travel expenses. The award was presented at the DCMI 2023 Annual Conference in Seoul, Korea.
