Dublin Core™ Collection Description Application Profile

An indication (free text or formalised) of the strength(s) of the collection.

A statement of any access restrictions placed on the collection, including allowed users, charges, etc.

A statement of accrual policy (closed, passive, active, partial/selective), accrual method (purchase, deposit)) and accrual periodicity (closed, irregular, periodic).

A statement of the legal status of the collection.

A statement of any changes in ownership and custody of the collection that are significant for its authenticity, integrity and interpretation.

Any general information about the collection.

The identifier for the physical or online (digital) location of the collection.

An object name associated with the items in the collection.

A personal or corporate name associated with the items in the collection.

If no scheme is used, enter personal names, where possible, surname first followed by a comma and the elements of the name that usually precede the entry element.

Enter corporate names in direct form.

The range of dates over which the collection was accumulated.

Enter a date range - two dates separated by a forward-slash (/). Each date should be entered according to the W3C note on 'Date and Time Formats', <http://www.w3.org/TR/NOTE-datetime>. Null dates may be used to indicate open-ended date ranges.

All the following are examples of valid date ranges:

1888/1894
1960/
2000-02/2000-06

indicating, '1888 to 1894 inclusive', '1960 onwards' and 'February 2000 to June 2000 inclusive' respectively.

The range of dates of the individual items within the collection.

Enter a date range - two dates separated by a forward-slash (/). Each date should be entered according to the W3C note on 'Date and Time Formats', <http://www.w3.org/TR/NOTE-datetime>. Null dates may be used to indicate open-ended date ranges.

All the following are examples of valid date ranges:

indicating, '1888 to 1894 inclusive', '1960 onwards' and 'February 2000 to June 2000 inclusive' respectively.

An agent who has legal possession of the collection.

The identifier or name of a second collection that describes the current collection (for example, the catalogue for the current collection).

Enter the name or identifier of the collection referred to.

If a name is entered, the data entry guidelines for collection names should be followed.

If a URI is entered, it should be fully specified, for example:

The identifier or name of a second collection that is described by the current collection.

Enter the name or identifier of the collection referred to.

The identifier or name of a publication that is based on the use, study, or analysis of the collection.

Uniform Resource Identifier.

Internet RFC 3066 'Tags for the Identification of Languages' specifies a primary subtag which is a two-letter code taken from ISO 639 part 1 or a three-letter code taken from ISO 639 part 2, followed optionally by a two-letter country code taken from ISO 3166. When a language in ISO 639 has both a two-letter and three-letter code, use the two-letter code; when it has only a three-letter code, use the three-letter code. This RFC replaces RFC 1766.

A list of types that categorize the collection according to its nature, the curatorial environment in which the collection has been made, the content of the collection and the collection policy and/or usage.
