AI is here. Do we need metadata?
Artificial intelligence — particularly large language models — is transforming how humans access and engage with information in powerful and often unexpected ways. It enables interaction with vast text collections and the ability to work with images through natural language. The use of multidimensional vector spaces opens up new possibilities for organizing large-scale digital content. These AI techniques are evolving rapidly and will continue to advance, potentially challenging traditional assumptions about the role and necessity of metadata.
