Deliverable: Survey of Government Implementation of DC

Objectives are to survey the use of DC in government settings, identify usage and implementation of DC elements and extensions, identify key challenges in implementation, and provide recommendations for future action based on these findings and discussions.

Australia - Tasmania Service Tasmania Online The Service Tasmania Online web site provides a customer-focussed portal giving easy access to government services for the Tasmanian community. It does not require customers to know the structure of government in order to access the services they require. The site is completely driven by metadata, with navigation options running dynamic searches against a central metadata repository. Canada Government of Canada Common Look and Feel Metadata Standard (CLF Metadata for GoC) All GoC Web sites must adopt the following five metatags as a metadata standard for description of Web resources: Title, Originator, Language of Resource, Date and Controlled Subject. Denmark Public Information online - a study project, and Connecting public Information on the Web (OIO & SON) The project has two aspects: 1. Public Information Online study project aims to propose a comprehensive metadata set based on Dublin Core™ which will ease the automatic handling and processing of public information; and to develop a Dublin Core™ metadata based search engine for the public as a demonstrator. 2. United States - Minnesota Bridges: Minnesota's Gateway to Environmental Information The Foundations Project is a multi-agency collaboration aimed at improving public access to environmental and natural resources data and information. Developing intuitive and easy to use search tools and strategies is the Project's focus. Staff and agency participants will catalog many kinds of electronic information resources using qualified Dublin Core metadata, including Web pages, PDF documents and geographic data.
