Best Practice: Promoting accessibility of scientific information and digital data in food & agriculture
FAO of the UN (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)
Imma Subirats, Senior information management officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leading AGROVOC, AGRIS and AGORA programmes with the objective to enhance accessibility and visibility to knowledge, information and data produced by FAO Member Countries
AGRIS, a global public service provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), is a central service which manages diverse resources crossing many boundaries such as resource types, languages, geographic regions, providers, and domains. This presentation will focus on three important components: (1) a metadata infrastructure which unifies the management and access of bibliographic and research data, (2) the indexing approach enabled through the AGROVOC for its multilingualism and semantic strategies, and (3) a unified platform and service for the community that enables two ways for the data providers, partners, and users to contribute to the AGRIS core knowledgebase.
