Task Group work plans and work structure changes

Following discussions at DC-2010, the DCMI Task Groups have established work plans for the next year. These will be posted on the Wikis and/or mailing lists of the Task Groups. In consultation with the DCMI Advisory Board, the following groups have been de-activated: the DCMI Collection Description Community, the DCMI Collection Description Application Profile Task Group, the DCMI Environment Community, the DCMI Identifiers Community and the DCMI Standards Community. Any messages related to these issues can from now on be posted on DC-General.

Further reports from the DC-2010 workshop sessions have been published by the DCMI Localization and Internationalization Community and DCMI Translation Task Group, the DCMI Social Tagging Community, the DCMI Metadata Provenance Task Group, the DCMI/NKOS Task Group and the DCMI/RDA Task Group.

DC-2011 to be held 21-23 September 2011 at the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague

We are pleased to announce that DC-2011, the eleventh International Conference on Dublin Core™ and Metadata Applications, will take place at the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague from 21 through 23 September 2011. The National Library of the Netherlands (KB) fosters the national infrastructure for scientific information and plays an important role in the permanent access to digital information at an international level. The KB has been involved in many international research projects in the field of digital libraries and hosts the offices of The European Library and Europeana. The European Library Office is coordinating the local organization of DC-2011. Further information about the conference will be made available in January 2011.

Three new Community moderators appointed

After the DC-2010 conference, three new Community moderators have been appointed: Corey Harper of New York University Libraries as co-moderator of the DCMI Registry Community, Jian Qin of the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University as co-moderator of the DCMI Science and Metadata Community and Stuart Sutton of the Information School at the University of Washington as co-moderator of the DCMI Education Community. Corey Harper and Jian Qin have become members of the DCMI Advisory Board.

Meeting reports from DC-2010 becoming available

Reports from workshop sessions at DC-2010 are becoming available. Reports from the joint meeting of the DCMI Architecture Forum and the W3C Library Linked Data Incubator Group, the DCMI User Guide and Glossary Task Groups, the DCMI Libraries Application Task Group, the DCMI/NKOS Task Group, the DCMI Registry Community and Task Group and the DCMI Education Community have been published and reports from the other meetings are expected soon. Please watch the DCMI mailing lists and Wikis over the next weeks.

Tutorials, presentations and proceedings of DC-2010 published

Over 150 people from 23 countries attended DC-2010 in Pittsburgh from 20-22 October 2010. The Tutorials that were given on 20 October 2010 can be downloaded from the Training resources page. The opening presentation, the keynotes by Stu Weibel and Mike Bergman, and the closing presentation are also available for download. The conference proceedings are online in the DCMI Conference Paper Repository.

Maintenance release of DCMI Terms Recommendation

The DCMI Usage Board has published a maintenance release of DCMI Metadata Terms. Changes include a formal range for dcterms:title, a new datatype dcterms:RFC5646, and a declaration that the property foaf:maker is equivalent to dcterms:creator.

We're now only a week away from the start of DC-2010, 20-22 October 2010 in Pittsburgh. The program now also includes the names of the meeting rooms. You can still register online. There will also be the possibility to register on-site. The registration desk will be open on Tuesday 19 October from 4-6pm, and on the conference days from 7-10am and 1-3pm.

DCMI liaises with MIKE2.0

DCMI has established a liaison with MIKE2.0, the open source standard for Information Management. MIKE2.0 (the Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment (MIKE2.0) is an open source delivery framework for Enterprise Information Management.

New Task Groups for revising the User Guide and reviewing the DCMI Abstract Model

Two new DCMI Task Groups have been formed: the DCMI User Guide Task Group that will work on a revision of the popular but outdated document "Using Dublin Core™" and the DCMI Abstract Model Review Task Group that will prepare a review of the DCMI Abstract Model, both for discussion at DC-2010 in October 2010. Discussion will take place on the DC-Glossary and DC-Architecture mailing lists, respectively. Participation by interested members of the Dublin Core™ community is welcomed and encouraged; please contact Tom Baker for further information.
