DCMI Cultural Heritage Metadata Task Group

The goal of this task group is to identify the challenges of metadata for cultural heritage and to provide a simple cross-community metadata model for Cultural Heritage Objects and give a recommendation for the development of DCMI Application Profiles. The recommendation will provide a basis for the development of Application Profiles / Description Set Profiles for different types of Cultural Heritage Objects.

W3C "Dublin Core™ to PROV Mapping" designated a DCMI Recommended Resource

2013-12-04, The W3C Working Group Note Dublin Core™ to PROV Mapping has been designated a DCMI Recommended Resource. The document provides a mapping between the PROV-O OWL2 ontology and the Dublin Core™ Terms Vocabulary. The Dublin Core™ Metadata Terms mapping document is part of the PROV family of documents defining various aspects that are necessary to achieve the vision of inter-operable interchange of provenance information in heterogeneous environments such as the Web.

Overview

The focus of the work of the Community is to ensure that DC metadata users can describe resources and services in a way that will increase the accessibility of information for everyone. This supports the 'AccessForAll' approach to accessibility that differs from previous reliance solely on good resource design and construction. The development of the Dublin Core™ Collections Application Profile, which is a Dublin Core™ Application Profile for collection-level description, was finalised by the DCMI Collection Description Application Profile Task Group. This Task Group is also reponsible for establishing procedures for the ownership and maintenance of the profile, and of the terms used in the profile.

2010-08-30, DCMI Abstract Model Review Task group established

Scope

Work on the DCMI Abstract Model began in 2003, resulting in a first
DCMI Recommendation in March 2005 and second, revised DCMI
Recommendation in June 2007. Work on an abstract model was undertaken in order to clarify and formalize the
"home-grown" model of metadata that had emerged from early Dublin Core™ workshops.
