DCMI has been engaged with W3C since the mid 1990s, and "Dublin Core™ metadata" was featured as a usage example in the Resource Description Framework (RDF) Model and Syntax Specification of 1999. DCMI is currently an institutional member of W3C and is thus represented on the W3C Advisory Committee.

The FOAF Project

Friend of a Friend (FOAF) is a widely-used vocabulary of terms related to the description of people. Since 2011, DCMI has maintained a "good neighbour" agreement with the FOAF Project. The agreement is monitored by a DCMI FOAF Cooperation Task Group, which posts annual reports to the community about the status of specific measures undertaken in cooperation between DCMI and the FOAF Project to ensure the long-term availability of the FOAF namespace.

ISO

Since 2001, DCMI has been registered as a liaison to ISO TC 46 Information and documentation, SC4 Technical interoperability, and has served as a category A liaison to ISO/TC 46/SC 4 since 2012. DCMI first collaborated with ISO on the publication of ISO 15836-2003, "Information and documentation - The Dublin Core™ metadata element set". The standard has periodically been revised and republished, most recently in 2017. An additional standard, "ISO 15836-2 Information and documentation -- The Dublin Core™ metadata element set -- Part 2: DCMI Properties and classes" is under development.

ASIS&T
