News from 2011

In the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, there may be disruptions in the access to the Dublin Core™ Metadata Registry, hosted by the Research Center for Knowledge Communities at the University of Tsukuba.

DCMI is pleased to announce that the National Library of Finland, the organization that was the first affiliate of DCMI in 2003, has decided to extend its membership for another three years until 2014.

The organizing committee of DC-2011, to be held 21-23 September 2011 in The Hague, is pleased to announce the keynote speakers for the conference: Emmanuelle Berms who is well known for her work on the application of new technologies in the domain of libraries and cultural heritage, and Mikael Nilsson who is a leading expert in issues related to interoperability across metadata standards.

To allow for additional applications, a renewed Executive Recruitment Call has been issued. The new deadline for applications is 3 April 2011.

As of today, all documents published on the DCMI Web site are available for use and re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.

A NISO/DCMI Webinar, "Metadata Harmonization: Making Standards Work Together", will be held online at 13:00 Eastern Time on 16 March 2011.

DCMI and the FOAF Project have agreed in principle to tighten the alignment between DCMI Metadata Terms and the FOAF (Friend of a Friend) Vocabulary two specifications often used together in applications, especially in the Linked Data space.

As part of a recruitment exercise following the independent incorporation as a not-for-profit Company limited by Guarantee in Singapore in December 2008, DCMI is soliciting applications for a number of positions in the Executive Office.

The DCMI Executive and Oversight Committee are pleased to announce that on 1 January 2011, MIMOS Berhad of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia joined the DCMI Membership Program.
